I live and paint in my Hythe studio and enjoy painting in many different mediums as it keeps me fresh and ‘on my artistic toes’. I paint using watercolours, acrylics, pen and wash or collage/mixed media. The subjects I cover are landscapes, seascapes, flowers and animals and birds - often quirky ones. My inspiration is mainly from nature which I am surrounded by living by the sea and having a huge park behind me and a canal 5 minutes away. I also teach beginners watercolours and acrylics and give collage/mixed media workshops.
I am influenced by Impressionist artists and in particular love the work of ‘The Glasgow Boys’. I like to think that my art is a combination of the joy of art, inspiration and the magic of creating. I have been a founder member and treasurer of hART, which is a group of professional artists who put on an annual exhibition at the Tin Tabernacle in Hythe and this year we were delighted to include 16 guest artists. I am also the membership secretary of Folkestone Art Society and have been very involved in helping to guide it to the excellent place it has in the local art world now. This year I was one of the tiny committee who organised the Hythe Art Trail which raised money for Pilgrims Hospices. I am working on planning a mixed media collage workshop for Folkestone Art Society which takes place in November. |
