Diana’s artwork has a temporal range dealing with memory traces and triggers transported into a contemporary frame. Her visual interpretations range across photo montage, printmaking and drawing and encapsulate elements of family history, fairy tale, myth and cultural signifiers. Whilst the photographic components capture actual moments in time the disparate pieces of the collaged images come together as if they have emerged from a light bulb moment or a chance encounter from her inner world. They are visual stories where intuition, chance and precariousness are all part of the process of producing compelling artworks.
Diana has engaged with certain imagery and subjects to create an opportunity for articulating visually felt experience. Most important to her is making the truth felt in a spontaneous way rather than producing reproductive narratives. Diana graduated from Saint Martins School of Art (now Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design) in the ‘80s and with distinction from the MA Fine Art, UCA, Canterbury in 2018. She is an active exhibiting member of the local arts community in South East Kent. In 2018 she was co-organiser of the Hythe Festival Art Trail when artists across Sandgate, Seabrook, Hythe and the Romney Marsh opened their studios to the public as part of the biannual festival for the first time. She was one of the first members of Hythe art group, hART, and a founder member and co-designer of the ‘Look Out and Remember’ memorial garden in the Lower Leas Coastal Park, Folkestone. In 2017 she was a tutor for ‘Folkestone is an Art School’, a Triennial activity directed by Bob and Roberta Smith RA. She has work in collections in Brazil, Spain, Germany, France and the United Kingdom. |
