My painting journey started nine years ago and continues to be an adventure into experiments with paint, collage, texture and ideas.
Over that time I've moved towards abstracting my work and am happy to move away from exact form. I'm happy to contort, obscure and change colours to make my painting work for me. Figures, usually women, make up the majority of my work, but I'm not sure why! I use photographs to give me ideas, most of them are ones I've taken over the years with the idea of making a painting one day in the future! I also tear pages out of magazines if there is something that interests me, but it will only be an element that I may use.
I have had success with my work, I've exhibited at the Summer Exhibition, which was a thrill after having work shortlisted for a few years but not hung. I've also had my work exhibited by the Society of Women Artists at The Mall Gallery - which led to being asked to take part in an exhibition held by Candida Stevens, also at The Mall Gallery, called Good Figures.
It is wonderful to be a member of the AVA and to take part in their exhibitions and enjoy the work of such a varied and talented group of artists.
